Success and critical acclaim are a slippery slope. The more famous you get, the more enemies you have and the more people will clamor for your downfall. NYC’s reigning porn czar, Michael Lucas, wears his hubris on his sleeve. Maybe it’s the language barrier, but whenever he opens his mouth he seems to piss someone off, sort of like gay porn’s very own Howard Stern.
His newest outlet, his Blog, allows him to be outspoken about such heretofore verboten topics on an almost daily basis. Whereas in the past he could only touch upon taboos like a certain “uber agent’s” drug peddling at public appearances and in press releases, now he can wax poetic on topics such as masculine hygiene on an almost daily basis. Love him or hate him, (or love to hate him) he’s always entertaining to say the least.
Never one to rest on his laurels, his latest endeavor, “Michael Lucas’ Dangerous Liaisons” is by far his most ambitious project to date. It eschews his normal all-sex, plot-light formula for an elaborate plot and dialogue-heavy script written by Tony Dimarco. While this isn’t the first time that Choderlos de Laclos’ 1782 classic Les Liaisons Dangereuses has been made into a gay porn — technically first there was Odyssey’s Carnal Intentions, which was based on “Cruel Intentions,” which was based on “Dangerous Liaisons”, but who’s counting? — it’s certainly never been told in the porn sphere with such style (we’re talking sets with real-live Barcelona chairs!) but I’ll post a more thorough review of that later, for now, let’s let’s hear what Michael Lucas has to say for himself …
So, what have you been up to lately?
I’ve been incredibly busy these past few months. My biggest and most ambitious project, Dangerous Liaison (the dirty version) is coming out today and the publicity around it has been incredible. I’ve been giving interviews to every reviewer and blogger and magazine. We’re also getting ready to start the filming “Fire Island Cruising 7,†production is set to begin in July and there’s a lot to do. Lucas Distribution (my second company), is now becoming a major player in the distribution arena and so that’s been taking up a lot of my time. To top it all off, I still perform all over the country and abroad. I’ve been to Florida six times in the past several months, I traveled to San Jose last weekend, and I just returned from Israel where I did a live sex show with Wilfred Knight (just voted the hottest porn star by Out magazine). I fucked him in one of Tel-Aviv’s hippest clubs. It was quite the show. “Auditions part 4†is about to be released and if that’s not enough to fill my schedule, I just launched a new website called Lucasblog.com were post commentary on a daily basis.

Absolutely, I am very close with my parents, grandparents, and brother. I would never lie about what I do. They are highly educated, and open-minded people. They have no problem with my line of work, and they are proud of my success. Though I am pretty sure they’d prefer if I stick to law.
What time do you get out of bed in the morning?
I get up at 6:30 AM on weekdays, and around 8:30 on weekends.

That said I do find that many are insecure and in constant need of attention.

I’m not a Lucas fan, and I find him to be quite irritating; especially what he writes on his blog. I use to visited it back in May, until I realized it had nothing to do with PORN. I have had the good fortune to meet Michael Lucas. Not only is he a very handsome, sexy man, he is intelligent, polite and courteous. He is obviously a very succesful businessman. My DVD collection only contains productions from Lucas Entertainment, as Michael is the only person in the gay porn industry that produces high quality, entertaining films with hot performers.

I too have much respect for Michael. Here’s a guy who grew up in a country were his views, opinions and freedom were suppressed. He came to our great country because we have a thing here called “freedom of speech†and took great advantage of it. He is a free man, so I guess he’s allowed to be cocky(though I find it highly unmerited). But a lot of the stuff he says are unfounded. He uses stereotypes and such to “speak his mind”–which is quite uncivilized if you ask me. Even though this is porn, it’s still a business, so I think it’s important to maintain a level of professionalism, especiallly when you create a blog to represent your company. I don’t think his approach is a good way to draw fans.
People praise him for speaking his mind and say he says what most people are thinking. So if that’s true than most people are badly informed dolts with extremely limited knowledge about the world. Sad.
All in all, some of his movies are pretty good, minus the extremely bad acting.
PS: I don’t think his critics are jealous because of his “talent”. Anyone can stick a dick in someone’s ass and get paid. That’s only a cop-out.

Whatever he is, love it or hate it, he is the BEST at it. Michael is a Prince in every sense of the word, we thaught so when we met him and still call him that when we speak or write to him.

Hey!! I met Michael Lucas a couple of times. I worked with him in LOST, and it was GREAT! I also met him in the LA GAY EXPO and in Bs. As. when he and his boyfriend were visiting my country.

I have the chance to work with Michael on a weekly basis, and from my personal experience I know he has a great sense of humor, that unfortunately did not come across in his interview. The use of people like Hedda Lettuce and Lady Bunny in his videos is a good indication of his fun and silly nature. If you have never really talked to him you wouldn’t know that Michael believes “Not to take life so seriously for it makes the happiness of life way to short. “ You may not agree. Then again everyone is entitled to his own opinion.
Whether you like Michael’s look, lips, fucking abilities, sense of style, dick size, abs or tummy, attitude, or cockiness, is secondary to the fact that he is one of the first porn stars to advocate safe sex, and a safe environment for performers with a no drug tolerance. He also has contributed his time, money, and product to several community causes for as long as I have known him.
Then again when your watching his videos or DVDs I would think the last thing you’re thinking about is his interview or his blog or his opinion. You may not even like his direction, production, or acting, but he has gotten some of the hottest guys in industry to work with him on screen. Regardless, what hang ups or person attacks you put on the man behind the product, the product has been and continues to be very successful.

I worked for “Lucas Entertainment” in the past and it was the worst experience that I had working for the porn industry, and how he said that Chi chi was his biggest turn off, well Mr. Michael Lucas is my biggest turn off. That’s why when somebody ask me if they should work for him, I tell them no and that they should do it for somebody else and not Mr. Michael Lucas. I think he forgot that he was model before being a director and before that he worked at a travel agency, he treats the models like a piece of meat, humiliate them and make them feel like shit so he can get his ego higher than it is.
I am tired of seeing his face and his body full of make up (because he won’t leave his room without make up all over his body and face) in a every single magazine that I open, he should retire and let the new young guys with beautiful bodies and faces fill the magazines and videos. He should stop paying the magazines to put him on their publications, because we all know that one of his employees works for HX the magazine and that’s why he is always appearing on that magazine.

Wow… I had no idea how many people had issue(s) with Michael Lucus. So, I know that this will likely not be a very popular blog-entry, BUT, I kinda like him. Though I do think that he’s slightly skanky, I think he’s equally as hot; at least in his videos. The sexiest scene in any of his videos, to me, was a scene in Paris where this really sexy guy ate his ass – for what seemed like hours. It is amusing how people can judge from just an image, and also how jealous and bitchy gay men can get. The shooting star type success of Michael Lucas has for long been disturbing an image based industry: Oh my god, a porn star made it to the top, arent they all supposed to be brain dead? Well in his case, NOT! None of the people i know including me have been as focused as he has been. I m not talking from what i ve read, but from i ve seen and lived. It never stops and beyond just sex, his drive makes him a great performer and working machine.
It would be easy to assume my comments are those of a brain washed model but they are not. Across the last one and a half year i ve worked with him and his great team including Tony, i certainly have been the most independant and difficult one. But NEVER at any stage I ve seen Michael complaining or losing his temper. He s treated me like a prince whether in nYC or travelling to Israel, always with respect and consideration. We film what we accept to do, never beyond.
On a personal point of view, he s witty, funny, and yes guys, who wouldnt be arrogant, after having worked so hard to reach that point? In this industry, you need a big ego to reach higher grounds. And what s so wrong with that? It s called having balls.
I m in the porn industry because and thanks to him, and most of his critics wont be lucky enough to get to know the fascinating character he can be.
He s made it, and this in only the beginning of what a real professional approach to porns should be.

Just read a comment again from a model…well Michael does expect hard work but it always is rewarding at the end of the day. As models, we are professional there to perform,and give the production its buzz. As previously stated, and i have been is four of his movies, the set always is a fun place to be, a place when suggestion are made but the models ‘ feedback always taken into account. He is approachable hasnt forgotten he once was too directed, and do not repeat what he s sometimes had to endure.

Apparently, it’s not only in England where the nail that sticks up gets hammered down. Personally, I think Lucas’s movies are first-rate, I find him incredibly sexy, and I like his provocativeness. What I don’t understand is why people who intensely dislike him spend so much time and energy keeping up on his appearance, statements, etc. If that’s how you feel, you’re entitled to it but you might try working on yourself a bit if you can’t seem to move on from there.

In my own personal opinion I think Michael Lucas is great. The one thing (well one of the things) that I love about him is the fact that he speaks his mind and as he said in his interview you get exactly what you see. Besides the fact that he is a beautiful man he is very intelligent as well. As a gay man and someone who buys gay porn sometimes I think he makes great movies. Even though some may view him as cocky and self centered I think he is a man with a vision, and he has a characteristic that everyone can learn from which is confidence. Having confidence in yourself to reach your dreams. As a born American after reading about his story and his boldness to go a reach for his dreams, I am absolutely certain now I can do the same. Whether you love him or hate him, the man speaks his mind which is a very rare characteristic that should always be honored. Because with people like Lucas at least you know you are going to hear the truth.
