Gay Porn’s New Ultraviolence
The amount of porn being produced is spiraling ever upwards, like a sexual tower of Babel and many of the big studios are defining and re-defining themselves to be anything but mainstream. While some are distancing themselves from their fetish roots, others, most notably Titan are embracing them with guts and gusto.
Titan shocked the industry last year when it released Cirque Noir. Clowns, surgically forked tongues and Buck Angel, the infamous Man With A Pussy. Hell, it scared (and scarred) me. Later this month, they’ll release Folsom Filth and if the trailer is any indication it’s going to be a non-conventional, barely consensual doozy: kidnapping, suffocation, rosebud pumps, bloody whips, fists of fury and more piss than an urinal at Octoberfest (not to mention Francois Sagat). Titan isn’t the only one pushing the envelope, though. Mustang‘s upcoming Rammer promises similar themes of abduction and sexual submission, and Adonis Picture’s Bonesaw featured murder as well as man-sex. It’s hard to tell if how well the more aggressive hardcore porn will resonate with consumers … or authorities. It’s notoriously difficult to distribute anything sexual with even the slightest trace of violence (at dinner with Bonesaw director Jett Blakk the other night, he recounted the hoops he had to jump through to get Bonesaw to store shelves and past nervous reviewers).
Consumers and blue-haired ladies inevitably freak over productions like these, but the bleeding-edge content bring lots of attention and street cred to the producers. No matter how filthy or fucked you like your porn, I’m amazed when sexual conservatives fail to separate the fantasy nature of film. Theories of media effects are notoriously faulty (Beavis and Butthead suffered from monkey-see-monkey-do accusations in the 90s, but with porn people flip even harder). Just cause I see a double fisting — or Beavis taking a bat to a frog — doesn’t mean I’m gonna try it. Yet. After all, the Folsom Street Fair’s just around the corner…

I just watched this trailer. I have to say — I think I thought I’ve seen it all, having been to many Folsom Street Faires. But this is truely Shocking!!!!!!!

I’m into some pretty hardcore s/m stuff in my personal life and appreciate the attempt to recreate that fantasy on film. My worry is that in the fantasy aggression becomes more important than compassion and consent. In my experience the copmplexity of true s/m play is not something that can be portrayed with any amount of accuracy and it often becomes grotesquely violent without any balance. I also think that the majority of people who buy high-end gay porn DVD’s are not looking for this type of content.

I saw Bonesaw and liked it very much, even with the violence. Parts of it made me jump! But I have to attribute my enjoyment to the fact that the violence worked within the realm of the story and the overall film. If it had just been scenes of sex followed by murder, I don’t think I would have dug it. Another movie in a similar vein that I liked a lot was Dangerous Island from Cazzo. The same will hold true for the Titan movies, none of which I’ve seen, admittedly, IF the violence and weirdness is woven into an interesting plot. I think it would be easier to take than just to have extreme scenes for the sake of being shocking. And by the way, I’m buying Bonesaw and showing it to my friends this Halloween!

guys, the reality has everything to do with economy. like Mike says the amount of movies being made keeps going up and up, and you have to really do something to make your porn stand out, yes even if you are Titan media. these little tricks of theirs — pussy in the porn, ultraviolence, clowns etc.– thats all promotional stunts. Do they care about representing S/M or transexual sexuality? No, they want you to say WOW, and REMEMBER the movie because then you will have a greater chance of buying it, or if its not really your thing then at least streaming in on Nakedsword out of curiosity. Either way they keep a competitive edge in a saturated market. Its not stupid, but maybe a cheap trick.

I really don’t like this movie, it’s more an horror (with all special effects) that a porn.
I like some SM in porn video but this one is kinky with some disgusting scenes that have nothing to do with the SM were that master CARES the slave.
