Gay Shame: Media, Stars Malign Chi Chi LaRue Rehab Fund
Gay news site Queerty (and its endless peanut gallery of commenters), is not pleased with the GoFundMe campaign to raise money for Chi Chi LaRue’s rehab. While Chi Chi posted a video on facebook saying he was checking into Betty Ford, it’s worth noting that a friend started the GoFundMe campaign, not LaRue himself (although he has expressed gratitude for the campaign and reposted it several times on social media since).
I don’t get it. If you can’t afford The Betty Ford center, than pick a lower income rehab before you start crowd funding.

This will only enable a person, when they get off track they start a Gofumdme? So now people start Gofundme ACCTS for their rehab costs?

Most commenters seem shocked that a person at LaRue’s level of success would only have $20,000 of the $60,000 needed to complete two months of drug and alcohol treatment. I have no idea what’s up with his finances, but a couple of reminders: a. Drugs are expensive! b. Drug addicts aren’t great with money! c. 60 days in rehab means 60 days not working. For what it’s worth, within the first few days of checking in to rehab, before his friend launched the GFM page, Chi Chi asked friends and fans to send mail, not money:
Chi Chi LaRue has been very public about his battle with drug and alcohol addiction, and at one point was considering appearing on Dr. Drew’s Celebrity Rehab, which aired on VH1 from 2008, until 2011.
