Udpate: Cole Ryder, R.I.P.
Friends of late porn star Cole Ryder have issued an official press release regarding his passing. Although final results of his autopsy are still pending, the coroner’s first impression is that the immediate cause of Cole’s death was congestive heart failure. ADULT FILM STAR, COLE RYDER, DIES
LONG BEACH, CA, JULY 30, 2008:
Cole Ryder passed away of natural causes at his home in Long Beach, California, shortly past 8 am on Wednesday, July 30th, 2008, at the age of 36. Cole passed peacefully in his sleep, surrounded by friends.
Cole was signed as an exclusive to Rascal Video in 2006 starting the trend of more masculine, rugged studio exclusives. His career was short, but prolific. He appeared in nine films over the course of two years, with two films still in post production.
Cole touched many people’s lives personally and professionally. He was always the first to greet anyone with a big smile and warm embrace. He listened and spoke with his heart.
Cole was active and passionate about animals and HIV education, prevention and fund raising. In June, 2008, Cole was the Honorary Trail Guide for Saddle Up LA, a benefit fundraiser for The Life Group LA of which he was very proud to be a part.
Cole would without a doubt appreciate a donation, large or small, to The Life Group LA with which he felt a close connection and affiliation. Funds donated in his name will launch a support program for emergency veterinary care for the pets of HIV+ men and woman.
The coroner’s first impression is that the immediate cause of Cole’s death was congestive heart failure. Preliminary tissue studies showed Cole suffered from severe, hereditary, arteriosclerosis, a hardening of the blood vessels, which can lead to heart attack, stroke or aneurysm. Final autopsy results are pending.
Family and friends wish to thank everyone for their sympathy and support.

Fact is, it is EXTREMELY rare for a man to die of “natural causes” at 36. And of arteriosclerosis to boot, which is a slow-to-manifest condition that is easily diagnosed by a physician.
Gay porn stars are dying young and people are trying to persuade us this is NORMAL.

Beg to differ with Dan. It is not “easily diagnosed by a physician” unless the doctor is specifically looking for it…which is not a normal course of treatment for someone in their 30s. It almost certainly will not show up on a routine EKG. An angiogram is the normal way to confirm it.
As to porn stars dying young and calling it “normal” is an entirely different issue, that is irrelevant to my point here.

Great point Dan. I know of some major stars that are extremely sick right now and it is so sad. I wont name names but if you noticed some major talent that is no longer doing films. Very sad and God Bless Cole Ryder and his family.

May he rest in peace. I too thought it odd he died in his sleep surrounded by friends. Why would they be standing around the bed while you sleep. Sounds like he was failing and it was expected.

A “congestive heart failure” can happen to everybody, there are lots of “old” porn model (one on all Jeff Striker that is now 45 y.o.). Other things are that some men (gay or straight) have crazy lifestile, taking drugs (legal or illegal) to be up, to be down, to wake up and to sleep. But lots of porn model, like other people in the start system have self distructive behaviours.

Porn stars ARE dying too young, and there are some awesome porn stars that have just disapeared. Whatever happened to Shane Rollins for example? I just hope he’s ok. He is and always will be my favorite porn star. I’ve asked various bloggers if someone knows about him and no one knows.
These porn stars are dying and dissapearing and bloggers just post the news and nothing else. They shoud question, ask, investigate. Not just conform with “He died from natural causes” Come on!

Everyone dies and we quickly if not in various weeks know what the cause of death was.
But when porn stars die, there’s always the “cause of death unknown” thing.
Then they issue a press release with some pointless stuff and say that the autopsy results are still pending. Then time passes and everyone forgets and no one will ever know the real cause of death.
It’s always the same thing. What are they hiding?

It’s comforting he died with his friends surrounding him but that to me means that they were expecting his death at any given moment. It doesn’t sound like his death was sudden or a surprise.

First off my heart goes out to those who knew and are so deeply effected by this loss of Cole , I did not know him and I wish that I had gotten the chance to.
I had done movies from march 07 to march 08 ,I had the opportunity to work on various movies with several well established companies, I have left for new career opportunities “with my clothes on The first man I did a scene with was Kent North a great guy , no sign of anything out of the ordinary , yet he died 2 weeks after , so I know what you mean when you say , gay porn models die young ,,,,aging and being gay is never an easy transition, being judged on what you are in porn is all about the body ,,come on it aint acting ,,I am very grateful I chose to do this at an age when I had a lot of life experience in porn years I am quite sure I am around 86
, what must it be like to be young chosen merely on your looks , name changed ,,and put through the factory that is porn ,hearing with young ears that” you are the hottest thing EVER ” then months later hearing ,, there is a new guy that is the Hottest ever ,,,, and um you better not eat that carrot you are almost a size 29 inch waist , BTW that’s fat in porn pounds,,I simply am saying to those thinking about going into the Porn industry take your time really really think about it , for some its completely fine and they use it to further “other” income , for those that believe what they read about themselves watch out , once you change that name and put yourself out there you aren’t who you were , once that name is changed you are a piece of meat , to a lot of gay men out there , you have no soul , family , you aren’t a real person , you will have to deal with the things people say to you good and bad ,ultimately this man died to young ,many gay men die to young , when I was coming up it was usually the big HIV, now it seems that other “lifestyle” choices might lead young gay men both in and out of porn to early health issues , I only have issue with people who write unkind things about a porn actor , why does it matter that possibly family and friends in they’re grief don’t reveal the most personal details of that persons death , because on the death certificate , it wont say Cole Rider , it will be the real name of someone’s son , partner and friend who they will never get to see -hug – talk to again ,

I just learned about Cole Ryder’s demise: I fell in love with him(videos he acted u
in), just a few years ago. It devistated me,as it must have all his fans. I could never get enough of
viewing him-he was my fantasy lover! I’m 79, & he still thrills me,in the privacy of my bed room. He will live until the last of his fans join him,Amen!
