This man has a gorgeous cock. And just about everything else. Sam Jose takes it out for bragging, after the jump …

Was it scheduled to prove the haters wrong about mainstream gay porn and black men? Does it matter, when Sam Jose is this hot? More …

Will he get work though, or will producers moan about the market? Or, my favorite, how hard it is to find models of color? Would like porn producers to be honest. Just say hell will freeze over before models of color get gigs on a consistent basis.

The producers won’t moan about the market if he does well — ultimately, he could be a one-legged Mongol and if the porn sold, he’d be in all of it. Is there racism in the gay porn industry? Certainly. Is it just what you find in gay culture in general (aka, “sorry, just a preference” crowd)? Double yes. I also say that I know a fair number of directors who produce content who, in their personal lives, date/live with/love men of color. But for various reasons — mostly a market with a fetish for white college boys — aren’t crazy about straying from it in an already tough economy.

Do I wish there were more men of color in productions? Sure. Do I miss the uncomfortable minstrelsy of “thug” porn? Not really. I’m looking forward to finding a way that works to celebrate but not fetishize. Unfortunately, the ultimate answer may be to not look to porn for our sense of self worth.

“But for various reasons — mostly a market with a fetish for white college boys — aren’t crazy about straying from it in an already tough economy.”

So what was the excuse when the economy wasn’t tough? And I guess while it’s good some producers like their berry dark and sweet (grin), does that really matter if those same producers refuse to use models of color?

No one is looking for a sense of self from porn. Just some some good fucking. But gay porn seems unable/unwilling to provide that with a wide-ranging color palette. Gay porn companies are more comfortable with bareback sex than multi-racial casts. That is funny!

Outside of Randy Blue, I don’t expect many companies to offer Sam Jose any work. Well except maybe for Lucas, which is ironic. If pushed those same companies will act like it’s not their fault, or refuse to simply admit that gay porn will stay (mostly) white until the end of time.

Truthfully, it doesn’t matter really matter how the economy is. I wouldn’t ever claim that the mainstream industry was ever particularly strong on models of color. What you did have in a strong economy (and strong DVD sales) was at least a healthy market for niche studios like Pitbull. Now, they’ve pretty much disappeared. You still have a few places — CoCoDorm, Next Door Ebony, etc. —  but it’s not where it was. And when it was strong, it pushed studios into the market.

That said, there are way more latino and mixed race performers in films than there were a decade ago when I got involved in the business. Are they generally light skinned? Yes. And there are a handful of Asians, which is up from about minus zero when I started. So is it enough? No. Is it progress? Maybe. Is it quick enough? No. I

We only disagree on the progress part. I would say there hasn’t been any. If the progress is minimal in your ten years, then when it comes to race the gay porn industry is nothing but reactionary. DW Griffith would be proud. :-)

Thanks for the conversation. Hope it goes without saying that I like your site. Although technically I should hate you. You guys didn’t show Rick McCoy the type of adoration that cutie deserved. :-)

All I know is that I get all dizzy and heated whenever I see a new scene with BiLatinMen’s Exclusive Em’ Panada.

Honestly no one needs porn to have self worth, however when people are constantly bombarded with images of people that do not look like them or negative images of a group of people in this case men of color, it can take a toll. There are white men across all themes of porn, some are fat, hairy, muscular, trashy, classy etc. same goes for porn stars of color however unlike white guys when the men of color are cast in these movies they are cast as aggressive, gangsters, thugs, drug dealers, tops, versatile/tops etc. when was the last time you saw a black guy in a mainstream porn flick that was ONLY A BOTTOM, was the flick one of those big budget ones, was it filmed so well it could be classified as erotica. – “no black, no asian preference” will continue as long as people are exposed to “the ideal”. Having a preference does not mean you can’t try something different once in a while or all the time, nor does it mean you have to belittle and degrade what you don’t have a preference for. I have a very strong preference for spicy food not just spicy, i’m talking tongue burning, eyes watering, SPICY food, I also love strawberry cheesecake covered with whip cream and sprinkles on top ;-)
