Gay Porn Sneak Peek: Falcon’s “Longboard”
Granted an interesting debate was spurred by the last two entries (can gay porn be — gulp — art?!), but at risk of turning this place into a gay porn dailykos, I’m taking things in a decidedly UN-political route: An Ode to the Surfer Dude. They’re too stoned to care about politics anyway.
Growing up in Miami Beach, surfers were the top of the crush food chain. And gay porn from that era was no different: Some of the biggest stars (Leo Ford, Lance, etc) looked like they got their tanned, toned bods from the beach not the gym. My number-one surfer dude crush in high school once asked me — in earnest — what year it was. Surfers may smoke as much pot as hippies, but they’re well groomed, neatly dressed, and ooze sex.
After watching Falcon’s latest, Longboard, I’m guessing director Chad Donvoan feels the same way I do. Although he’s not a blond I see the same heavy-lidded dopey adorableness in cover star Derek Brodie (the latest amateur star to “go mainstream” — I’ve ogled him on Jake Cruise often). The rest of the cast is rounded out quite nicely with real blonds and actual surfers, like shaggy-haired
Zackary Ryan who looks like he comes from another era.

Zackary Ryan is straight, gay for pay. Derek Brodie has been used on many, many other websites. I’m disappointed in Falcon lately. I’m a fan of the company but I haven’t been buying their product recently because I just don’t get that “wow factor” anymore.

I’m a fan of Falcon/Mustang/Jocks videos. I don’t mind that they’re usually vanilla; the performers are usually hot enough. That being said, Longboard was BORING. To me, that’s the biggest crime of all. There is no excuse for making a boring porno; Longboard was a real snoozer. I was disappointed. Falcon can do better

It’s very strange, but the aesthetic quality of gay porn, even from majot studios like Falcon, has been going down-hill. Maybe it’s just the pay-for-gay actors, maybe it’s the steriodal male-stripper body-types, but their recycled oldies from ten and twenty-years ago have hotter sex and sexier guys than today. And you don’t need to track the tattoos to figure who’s diddling whom. And the guys look like they’re actually having fun…or feeling the burn!
Has the high-rent male-stripping circuit and professional escorting ruined gay porn? What happened to the (real) gay guys who did high-quality porn to pay their tuitions for real future careers. Or because they enjoyed the sex and showing-off?

Im totally agreeing with the comments about falcon, as of late their movies have not been up to par. Are the guys hot, well hell yes but the flicks have been boring and alot of the same old, same old. The last 2 falcons i bought were the spokes collection and big dick club and both were decent at best. Right now rascal and raging stallion have falcons number with colt right there behind em!

I remember seeing some SG4GE stills of Derek Brodie that someone had posted on a blog. They were stills of him with a chick obviously, but let me tell you… he didn’t look too thrilled in those either! They were a couple of stills of him smiling, but it looked like he was smiling AT the cameraman because he was loving the attention and not because he was enjoying the het sex. I’m not saying that he doesn’t like sex period. But the guy probably thinks he’s the shit, so that’s why he doesn’t really do much in front of the camera. I dunno, maybe I’m wrong but that’s my guess.

I checked it out and it is BEYOND boring. What could have been an ultra-hot movie like Taking Flight has become a real snooze fest… I actually fast forwarded through the Derek Brodie fucking – the boy didn’t make one grunt or groan. Something about an actor that can’t event feign interest in gay sex – makes me wonder why Falcon would cough up for someone like that

I don’t know if this is a sign of anything but I showed the trailer to 10 different guys that I know and all 10 of them said they didn’t think ANY of the models in this movie were hot. And the thing is these 10 guys I know are from different ethnicities, body types and so forth.

I have to agree that this was a boring film. Amost all the sex was one sided with straight trade recieving all the pleasure while the gay boys slobber all over them. The trade looks bored and fairly disinterested (probably thankful their was a huge jar of viagra on the set). The long haired boy I was waiting to see looked totally uncomfortable (even with a dick up his ass). In the last few Falcon films I`ve found the behind the scenes videos (dripping wet, The farmers son, Heaven to Hell) more interesting and sexual than the actual films.

I have to agree with the posters that found this movie to be really really boring! Falcon is just getting way too vanilla and its like every video now is the same in a different setting. I look for videos with more flavor, some diversity in the casting goes a long way. ANd guys that look like they are hungry for the ass they are fucking or hungry for the dick they want. Black bottoms, Latin guys something different!

I think it’s really interesting that people here are so quick to criticize falcon and yet all these people claim to have seen the movie (which seems unlikely since it just came out like last week). I don’t see the same level of criticism towards any of the other studios and I wonder if it has to do with the actual quality of the product or if it’s just people with grudges against falcon because they’re #1.

I saw this flick… sadly it was not that exciting. There are hot guys… but they just dont seem into it. The hottest scenes arent necessarily the ones with the hottest guys- but the ones where they seem like they can’t get enough….

How can you say Falcon is number one? I am in the industry and I do not know of some industry rankings system. There are rankings for top sales, top rentals, even top Video On Demand. None of these have a consistent Falcon number 1 ranking. Actually they are not very consistent at all for Falcon. I would almost be willing to suggest they are sliding quickly.
Then there is the whole internet “buzz” side of the argument. Even you acknowledge and notice that a lot of people are against Falcon. I would even bet you are right that many of these people are speaking with a bias. But I would not agree that people have seen this week old movie. Actually I would suggest they haven’t watched it all, like me. Why waste money on something that just isn’t going to please you. Although I have to give the studio credit for not parading Erik Rhodes, Matthew Rush, or Roman Heart out for one more movie. It was starting to look like the movie studios from the 30’s and 40’s when they wore their “exclusives” out. Sort of like the Three Stooges.
But all of the people posting negative comments doesn’t even approach the “buzz” out there. Did you know there are some other internet sites out there where fans discuss the studios and actors? The discussions are going hot and heavy about Falcon going out of business. Their models are spending their time working for other places, their directors are quitting right and left, and the studio admits they have stopped filming.
Instead they are pumping out the movies filmed quite some time ago like this one. Their email blasts talk about severe discounts and specials. It reminds me of a dying department store that knows its days are numbered.
So falcon_fan I hope you are not too upset when people continue to express their opinions till the very soon to come day that Falcon closes it doors. Perhaps you should join the other handful of supposed falcon fans and encourage the straight men owned studio to clear out all of the current staff that is left there and start over. Bring back their glory with people who are creative and have passion. Maybe even start drug testing to get rid of their other consistent “buzz” stories!

I agree that Falcon’s movies have become tedious of late. There’s really no excuse for using gay-for-pay guys anymore. I think I’d rather risk Erik & Matthew-fatigue!
It also strikes me as daft that a movie about surfers has f*ck-all on the beach. It doesn’t take much imagination to create a Cafe del Mar-esque sunset scene: hot guys backlit by the setting sun, and that magic mood that twilight by the surf creates. Alas, the only magic in this movie is “avada kedavra”.

Falcon_fan, I have seen the movie and you are wrong, people are criticizing the content, the models, all of it and I take offense to your allegations. I have criticized other studios as well so don’t get all upset because people voice their opinion about a company that seems to no longer actually be #1 for overall quality.

Falcon movies are always going to have certain production values and qualities that some other studios lack; the big problem I have with Big Dick Club, Longboard, Basic Plumbing 3, Muscle Ranch, Farmer’s Son, Velvet Mafia, Cross Country, etc., is that they are boring. Even guys who can do a good scene in one movie are boring in others. For example, the Matt Rush, Ethan Kage pairing in Cross Country was hot but Matt Rush in Muscle Ranch was boring and tedious to JO to and Ethan Kage in Up All Night = ditto. I like Chase Hunter so was looking forward to seeing him fuck Erik Rhodes but it looked like he wasn’t very turned on or (and I’m a few years older than Chase so I can sympathize) he needed to take some viagra or something else. Basic Plumbing 3 also has scenes where Erik Rhodes looks bad, like when he was getting fucked on his back, that are purely bad decisions on the part of the director and poor or lazy execution by the cameraman. Ditto for Farmer’s Son: again, a promising scene featuring two attractive guys (Adonis and Rhodes) featured so many wierd shots and wierd decisions (what normal guy of any age keeps his baseball cap on through an entire sex scene? If it’s in his way enough that he would switch the bill, it’s in his way enough to take it off.)
Chad Donovan is really good with Twinks. It’s his personal preference. If Falcon is going to go with him for that, put him in charge of Jocks and release his output there and find someone else for the Falcon line.
