GAY PORN NEWS: RIP KARIM (1961-2013)

This is shaping up to be one hell of a year. Longtime bodybuilder and one-time COLT star Karim was found dead in a bathtub, dead of an apparent heart attack. However, police have reported finding a note at the scene.

According to Florida Agenda, the Montreal-born Karim (aka Christian Bouthillette) was found “unattended” in a bathtub in the Wilton Manors luxury high-rise he shared with his boyfriend.

The source close to the case told the Agenda that Bouthillette’s exact cause of death won’t be known until the toxicology is completed, but that source referred to an online report that Bouthillette had been arrested last weekend in Miami-Dade County for cocaine-related offenses. The same source also stated that a note had been found on the scene by investigators.

According to a post on the COLT Studio Group blog, Karim is survived by his real-life partner (and also bodybuilder model) Brian Cerf.

Karim wasn’t a prolific porn star — more recreational than occupational — but his scene with Carlo Masi in 2005’s Big N’ Plenty was nominated for Best Sex Scene. He had been bodybuilding since he was 21.

This is the third porn star heart attack in recent memory. Josh Weston suffered a fatal heart attack at 39. And last summer Erik Rhodes died after suffering a heart attack in his sleep.

I’m sick of writing obituaries. Nine in the past year alone. Very sad.

Mike

When some of these guys abuse steroids, they subject their bodies to terrible stresses. It can only take so much. Goes with the territory (the WWE has lost some wrestlers for the same reasons). Should be a warning to those who think you can take all these drugs without consequence.

The model shown above looks nothing like the model listed as Karim at Colt. Are you sure it’s the same man?

    Well, what did anyone expect?
Trying to exist in one of the most ruthlessly ageist, materialist, and objectifying sub-cultures in the world is going to take its toll.
As we age, our bodies stop making chemicals that enabled them to train for hours without pain. So, we…supplement them. The thought being, because if we don’t maintain that gym-toned body, how the hell are we going to get dates?
And then yes, there are the haters. Some of whom probably actually use this site, lick up every image, and then still go on to hate. Small people, who must tear down others in order to make themselves appear big.
If you’re going to be a gay porn star, in this day and age, you’d better have something other than gay culture to support you; something to do with your life and your time that keeps you away from the haters, the ageists, the objectifiers. Yes, probably away from gay culture.
Because if not, Mike is going to be writing a hell of a lot more obituaries.

Define hating. Is all criticism of behavior that you consider destructive hating?. Do the messages on this thread that precede this message qualify as hating?. Is your own (very critical) post hateful?. I’m confused, because people who like to blame all the problems of the porn perfomers on the ‘haters’ and the ‘gay culture’ seem themselves to be filled with contempt against gay culture and gay people.
Not once when I read posts like yours do I see anyone putting the blame on the performer. It’s always ‘the industry’, the ‘gay culture’, and of course, ‘the haters’. When I read your post, it sounded as if this guy had no choice; as if he HAD to destroy his body, as if he HAD to pay attention to the haters. It’s ridiculous, and phenomenally, offensively condescending. I believe in personal responsibility, I place it very high in my own moral code and I think it saves lives. If you(and these grown ass men) realized it’s THEIR duty to take care of their bodies and lives, and placed that value ahead of their own narcissism, there’s no social pressure in the world, no hateful anonymous post that would make them destroy their bodies. If they can’t see that simple fact, THAT’S THEIR FAULT, not the industry’s, not the fans’, not the haters’.
