Helix Studios Releases 6th Bareback Scene of the Year
Helix Studios began August with only their sixth bareback production of the year –- and there’s a story behind that unique unto them. Even in 2015, bareback is often tossed around like the gay porn equivalent of “new and improved” in an effort restore the bloom to a rose that may be starting to fade. As we saw last week with the re-launch of JuicyBoys.com, when it is not relegated to being just a redundant adjective, bareback can still create a buzz. But will this Helix scene?
Guysinsweatpants, started condom-only, but went bare with little fanfare. A few months later, Next Door Studios released their last bareback production after a nine month trial that for them, proved to be too problematic. This spring, one of the last condom-only producers, Randy Blue went bareback, with their first scene being none other than Jordan Levine and the incredibly hung, sexy, and self-fellatio enabling flexible, Dominic Santos.
Once Randy Blue cleared out a few condom scenes they had in the can, they have remained bareback. Then there is Helix Studios, which unlike the others, remains largely a safe-sex studio with the occasional bareback production such as their scene today: Beach Buns with Josh Benson and Logan Cross.
Prevailing wisdom is that the main impetus for going bareback is to stay competitive and be responsive to the demands of the market. Safe to say Next Door Studios found it did not affect their bottom line for the better the way it did for Sean Cody for example. When Helix releases a bareback scene, however, it’s not in response to consumer demand, but model preference, supposedly.
As discussed over at The Sword, Helix owner Keith Miller relayed his policy on the matter:
Helix has not stopped producing videos since 2004. Some of our videos are non-condom, others are not. We have never focused on our “bareback” videos but rather in high quality productions using the sexiest 18-25 years olds we can find. Some of our biggest stars have never been in a non condom video and specifically filming “bareback” is not our goal. Our models are the stars of our cameras not whether they bb or not. We will continue to film the highest quality performers we can find and when the performers desire to film bb we will do so.
Our Helix Academy series is all condom and outsells anything we have ever done in bareback. It is sad when studios believe filming bareback makes up for their total lack of originality and quality. There will be additional condom scenes produced by Helix, but we will not lose focus on the models. Thank you for your question. – Keith Miller, Helix Studios.
