GayPornTube: Porn Stars Invade Times Square!
Regular readers of this blog know that I'm so obsessed with gay porn stars posting banal clips of themselves on YouTube that I'll just make up an excuse to post any clip. So you could imagine my excitement when two of my YouTube favorites posted clips of almost the exact same thing. It's like the entry writes itself! A Brief History of the Gay Porn Mugshot
This is a timeline based only on the gay porn mugshots I've collected over the last four years editing this site (less one I had to remove at the behest of a cranky manager). From beating an elderly couple to stealing credit cards from a dead man, these anything-but-sexy crimes read more like a blotter of the world's creepiest crimes.
As far as gay porn arrests go, this is merely the tip of the iceberg -- Mattias Von Fistenberg and Collin O'Neal were both arrested while filming movies, for example, but I've never been able to track down either mugshot so they're spared from this.
Keyon (above) and Teyon (below): Feb 2008
Twins Keyontyli and Teleon Goffney were arrested in Philadelphia for trying to steal the cash out of a beauty salon's ATM and were promptly connected with at least 35 other robberies. It took porn fans all of six days to figure out they were the gay porn twins Keyon and Teyon who did a handful of scenes and cam shows, most notably a threeway on Blackmen.net with Marc Williams, where Marc bottomed for the first time on camera.
Nickolay Petrov: Jan 2008
Nickolay Petrov (aka Edmon Vardanyan) was arrested in Florida and charged beating and stalking a couple in their 60s. Petrov was actually hired to kill them but couldn't quite pull it off. The (former?) Jet Set Exclusive faces up to 20 years in prison.

Marcus Allen: November, 2006
When Timothy Boham -- better known to gay porn fans as Marcus Allen -- was arrested crossing the border into Mexico on suspicion of murdering his boss, JP Kelso, all sorts of bizarre details surrounding his life emerged, painting a portrait of a very twisted, conflicted man. Invoking a history of manic depression, in May, 2007 Boham pled insanity, claiming that Kelso's request for "a cuddle" set off a manic episode. He still awaits trial.
Cody Cash: March, 2005
The rough-hewn Beantown dreamboat checked out of Wet Palms and into LA County Jail for cocaine possession. Since his much-hyped release from prison some 20 months later in September 2007, he's since only filmed one scene (topping Braxton Bond on GetYourFixxx) and no one's heard from him since.

2008 GAYVN Awards: Liveblog or Die!
The 10th Annual GAYVN Awards are less than a day away and they're turning out to be the most controversial and least anticipated awards on record. People are unhappy about the hosts, location and lack of pre- and after-parties, and even some last minute questions have been raised about the sloppiness in the nomination process (FriskyFans editor found a nominee that was released in 2005. Ouch!)
Regardless, it will be an interesting night filled with lots of drama, surprises and and more bad fashions than you can shake a stick at.
That's why we'll be trying something different this year: we're teaming up with our friends at TheSword and Fleshbot to LiveBlog the event: Check back here starting on Saturday at 7 p.m. PST for real-time updates, pics and maybe even some compromising video clips as they happen.

I can't say I've ever actually read an article in S.F. bar-rag Gloss Magazine. Not that I don't thoroughly enjoy flipping through the colorful pages of mostly sex club and circuit party ads every week. In fact, whenever I see a new issue, I announce, "My favorite magazine!" and snatch one up. I'm drawn to it for the same inexplicable reason why I'll watch the same infomercial over and over.

The Format Wars: Gay Porn Gets Its (Very) Close-Up
While more than a few studios, including Titan Media and Factory Videos, are shooting on high-definition film, the conventional wisdom that porn is not something you necessarily want to see in that much detail has been one of the reasons that no one has been releasing in HD. The other, of course, is the format wars that have plagued Hollywood, still recovering from it's 80s Betamax hangover. The result has been a good number of films shot in HD, but almost none have actually released titles in it (which is sort of like watching HD programming on a non-HD television).
This week Raging Stallion became the one of the first to take sides and will issue its GayVN-nominated, forty-scene GRUNTS trilogy just as soon as it can figure out pricing. Given that the original six-disc set was one of the industry's highest-priced (and highly coveted) releases, it won't be cheap. Meanwhile, European studio High Octane announced that it would release its latest in HD-DVD, as will Boykakke films. Titan Media's Bruce Cam will be signing his final film and first high-definition film, Breakers, this week in the Castro.
As for those unforgiving high-definition revelations, when you've got a big screen to fill and nothing but Katie Couric's raisin face to look at, I guess you deal with the occasional ingrown hair.

Every so often you have an "LA moment" so perfect it makes putting up with all the bullshit worthwhile. Where in the World is Collin O'Neal?
Lately, the only person who pops up in my inbox more than Steve Cruz is Collin O'Neal, though who knows how he has time to email with all his globe-trotting. Will YouTube Kill the Gay Porn Star?
The new, decidedly low-fi Radiohead video takes me back to the crude early days of the music video, a time when new avenues of distribution (i.e. MTV) and cheap equipment had everyone making videos. The videos were not so great but an important step in the evolution of the medium as erstwhile directors mastered video production.
It's a time not unlike now -- only video production has gotten even cheaper, the distribution platforms (i.e. YouTube) even more accessible, and the videos people are producing are even cruder.
Only music videos have a point: To sell albums ... This latest batch of YouTube videos made by porn star-produced videos does little to sell anything. Fumbling with their MacBooks as they race to create the next Britney opus, which I thought was the lowest, but it appears we've got a ways down to go:
