Gay Porn Weekend: The COLT 40 Party Beef-Cake

I know no one believed me when I said that COLT Man Carlo Masi jumped out of a cake at the COLT 40 (get it? get it?) Party at the San Francisco War Memorial Opera House celebrating COLT's fortieth year in the industry. Gay Porn Awards: Lucas Sweeps GayVNs

While technical difficulties are keeping me from getting you the photos from the GayVNs until later today (is it possible that computer servers are as hung over as we are), last night's GayVN Awards were historic in more ways than one. Gay Porn News: XXX Raids in Times Square

Gay porn producers don't normally view the federal government as allies. In the past year, nearly a dozen adult companies have been subjected to raids by the FBI looking for record-keeping violations. So on Saturday morning when I got an text message from Owen Hawk with a pic featuring US Marshalls outside a run-down XXX store, I suspected the worst. Who would have guessed that they were there as a team?

Hawk and partner Matthias von Fistenberg from Dark Alley Media, along with the boys at Pitbull Productions, raided a series of adult video stores in Times Square (no doubt sandwiched between ESPN Zone and the Disney Store). The stores were selling counterfeit DVDs from studios including Hot House, Falcon, Raging Stallion, Titan and Jet Set.

With all the hullabaloo about file-sharing -- as well as the Orwellian sirens-and-flashing-lights "do not share this DVD" segments at the beginning of certain movies -- it's easy to forget that one of the biggest incursions into gay porn producers sales somes from a guy in a back room with a DVD duplicator. It's a good thing Dark Alley got them this month -- you have to wonder if the US Marshalls are going to be as sympathetic when Gaytanamo comes out.

(Note: Michael Lucas has informed me that his company -- Lucas Entertainment -- was actually behind the legal dispute that led to the raid. Due to the contentious relationship and competiting claims between the companies involved, I can't say who's right but felt I should note it.)

Gay Porn News: Few Updates in Cobra Murder Case

The murder of Cobra Video kingpin Bryan Kocis has left police scratching their heads almost two weeks after his charred remains were discovered. Their one lead may have just gone cold, too: The man police wanted to question in connection to the slaying -- an escort from Norfolk, VA, named Harlow -- may have an alibi.

Last week police recovered an email from Kocis' hard drive where he said he would be meeting with a potential model the night of his murder. A picture of the model was released and he was quickly identified as Harlow from NorfolkMaleEscorts.com (where he's billed as a "stud wonder"). He also appears on the amateur site BoyBatter.com.

A Pennsylvania paper is reporting that Harlow claims to have never met Kocis, is "freaked out" that his image is being linked to the murder, and alleged that somebody is "playing a sick joke or something.”

Harlow told reporters, "Clients will call me or send me a text message saying they’ve seen my picture on a Web site, and that I’m offering services in Atlanta. I’ve seen my body but my head was cropped out and someone else will put their head in. That picture they are using, I’ve used everywhere. It’s my cover picture.”

Making maters somewhat more complicated, however, Harlow admitted to meeting Sean Lockhart/Brent Corrigan at the AVN Expo Las Vegas last month, the same place where Lockhart and Kocis were seen together as well.

Otherwise, court papers about the case revealed that Kocis was stabbed 28 times and slashed in the neck before his house was set on fire. There was no forcible entry into his home, and a folding-style knife was found nearby, presumed to be the murder weapon. Police are looking for the driver of a light-colored SUV seen leaving the scene shortly before the fire broke out.

Note: In my previous post about this case, I erroniously referred to Kocis as a "convicted child molester" and several readers have taken me to task for this. True, he was charged with having sex with a 15-year-old teen in 2001. However, it was proven in court that the boy misrepresented his age and the sex was consensual, so he was only ever charged with one count of corruption of minors.
