Gay Porn News: Cobra Video Owner Murdered

The charred remains of Bryan Charles Kocis were identified by Pennsylvania authorities earlier today and a formal murder investigation has begun. An autopsy revealed that he was stabbed to death. They believe that his house was intentionally set on fire to cover up the murder and his remains had to be identified by dental records, several PA newspapers are reporting.

No formal suspects have been named, but Citizen's Voice is reporting that police have questioned three California men he was involved in a "business dispute" with, one of which presumably is Sean Lockhart.

Kocis, 44, was best known for his complicated ongoing legal battle with Lockhart, better known as gay porn star Brent Corrigan, 21. Jason Curious is reporting that the two were seen hugging at Krave in Las Vegas earlier this month and that they had finally reached a settlement to their legal dispute that would have involved them working together again.

Kocis, was the owner of Cobra Video, a popular bareback twink studio; he directed and produced all their films. Cobra and Kocis were thrust in the spotlight in 2005 when Lockhart/Corrigan announced that he was underage when he filmed Every Poolboy's Dream a year earlier. When I interviewed him, Lockhart told me Kocis gave him a car for filming Poolboy, and speculated that Kocis has made well over $1 million from it.

Copies of the movie were promptly pulled off shelves after Lockhart's disclosure. Lockhart later alleged that he was romantically involved with Kocis at the time of the filming and that Kocis was well aware that he was underage. Kocis claimed claimed to have proof on file showing Lockhart was legal at time the time of shooting.

Kocis responded by suing Lockhart for trademark violation for use of the name "Brent Corrigan", contract violation and a few other charges, much to the chagrin of Lockhart who often railed against Kocis and Cobra on his blog and to the press, and even held a web cam fundraiser to pay for his mounting legal fees. To avoid a legal entanglement with Kocis, Falcon Studios called Lockhart "Fox Ryder" in Velvet Mafia. Cobra continued to release movies featuring Lockhart as recently as August 2006, when they released Take It Like A Bitch Boy and Fuck, Me Raw, which featured Corrigan on the cover with a drop of cum poorly photoshopped to appear if it was dripping out of his ass.

Although Kocis never faced child pornography charges for producing Every Poolboy's Dream, he was charged with it in 2002, when police found a videotape of Kocis having sex with a 15 year old boy. He pled guilty to sexual abuse of a child and was sentenced to one year probation.

Gay Porn Stars Come Out Against Meth

Tweaker.org, the tell-it-like-it-is San Francisco-based anti-crystal meth concern unveiled their ad latest campaign featuring gay porn stars Parker Williams, Matt Cole, Matthew Rush, Michael Brandon, Derrick Hanson, Jay Black and Tom Lazzari.

But they're not the only ones to take a stand against meth. Spencer Quest released a statement via email last week from rehab, where he has 9 weeks left on a 90-day program to treat his crystal habit.

“I finally accepted, the week before Christmas, that my meth use had become out-of-control. And while I've struggled with various addictions all my life and have been able to handle them, even stop them in their tracks, crystal meth got the best of me. And I nearly killed myself. Intentionally.”

And of course the meth epidemic is by no means limited to just gay porn stars. The gay community at large -- with our early adopting ways -- have been stupidly doing it for years. You can't throw a rock in any gay ghetto without hitting a tweaker in the head, (but he'll probably be too busy scratching at the imaginary bugs burrowed in his skin to notice.)

2007 Gay Porn "Oscar" Noms Announced

The GAYVN Awards -- the closest the gay porn industry has to the Oscars -- were announced late yesterday to little fanfare (most likely because everyone is at the AVN Expo in Vegas but lil old me...)

As expected, Lucas Entertainment's La Dolce Vita was the most nominated with a total of 14. Buckshot Productions's Big Rig, Falcon's Velvet Mafia and Hot House's Justice were tied with 12 noms each.

COLT Studio Group garnered the most nominations -- 24 total -- with Channel 1 Releasing coming in a close second with 20.

Really, no shockers here ... unless you take the time to think about a few really glaringly ovbvious omissions in the lot ...

The awards will be held on February 24th, and for the first time they're being in San Francisco, at the Castro Theater -- smack dab in the heart of Gayville.

Mason Wyler: The Gay Porn Blog Interview

May I be so bold as to declare 2006 to have been the year of Mason Wyler? When I charted his trajectory from amateur to mainstream gay porn earlier this year, I assumed he'd reached his ceiling. And yet, I was wrong: He was just getting started.

Since then he's managed to nab starring roles and box covers for almost every major studio. No matter who he works for -- from Randy Blue to Corbin Fisher to Falcon to Hot House to Titan -- he always manages to fit the role perfectly, and he always manages to leave me, well ... uh ... speechless.

So what's new?
Well, I just moved into a new apartment with my boyfriend and we plan on having sex in as many rooms of the house as possible. I fInally no longer have a roomate. I like being able to lounge around naked with out thinking about it.

Most recent project?
I just did a movie for Titan. The code name was "The Road To Redneck Hollow", but they given it a final name yet. It was with Joe Gage. I've worked with him three times.

How do you like working with Joe Gage?
Joe's very soft-spoken and tells you exactly what he wants. He's easy to get along with and very amiable. Joe really focuses on the acting and b-roll. He's very serious about that.

So I always thought you started in amateur, but turns out I was wrong. What's the actual story?
The first porn I ever did was for Titan -- "Deep Water Beach Patrol." After I filmed it, I did some amatuer stuff, but the movie took longer to come out, so people saw the amatuer stuff first.

What's your favorite of your movies?
I've never watched any of my movies. It's like working at Six Flags (which I did): You get bored of roller coasters after a while. Porn still does stuff for me, just not the stuff I'm in.

Best way for fans to get in touch with you? Through my MySpace account. I try to return as many emails possible.

Last non-porn day job?
Working retail at the mall.

So why'd you decide to start doing porn anyway?
Pretty much I was low on funds and needed something that paid well and didn't take up too much time. I had a friend who knew people who did and he encouraged me. It took me about two months to decide. In those two months they were giving me fewer hours at work. But it's not just about the money: It's also the travel. I grew up in Texas, but lived in California since I was ten. So it's nice to be able to come back and visit California since it's it's changed so much since I lived here.

So how did you proceed?
I applied to a few places and waited to see who would return my calls ... and then everyone did.

Do your parents know?
No. I wouldn't tell mom -- she'd worry too much. I did tell her I did "modeling" though. Which is partly true. I told her that was how I was paying for school.

What would your porn star name be if you used your first pet / street you grew up on?
Coke Whisper Glen. I don't think that would have worked out. Too bad it couldn't have been my second pet, becuase it would have been "Squirt."

Humorous experience on a porn set?
God there's so many ... let me think. There were a few on Spokes III. No one saw this, but I walked out to where they feed the cattle on a platform and I fell face-first in the mud.

When I was filming "Black and Blue" in San Francisco for Hot House, I had a day off and walked to the Golden Gate bridge. I got wind burn and had a farmer's tan for my scene.

Favorite porn scene that you're in

There are a lot I really like, but I don't have one per se. I have really broad tastes -- I like a lot of different men from huge muscle guys to twinks, lots of different races too.

I started jekring off when I was 8. I guess it was proto-sexual: There was an oreo cookie ad with a hot cartoon character on it. I fantasized about marrying him and going off and living in a big house.

Would have been with a friend of mine, spending the night at his house. I was sleeping and I woke up with him rubbing my leg. It didn't go much further than that. I was 16.

Finishing up my last year of school soon. I'm a social studies major. I am doing a movie for Buckshot next, and some work for Randy Blue.

Oh, and I'm putting together a dresser from Crate and Barrel -- that's going to be a pain in the butt.

Gay Porn Breakthru: "Safe" Bareback?

Bareback porn has been a bone of contention in the gay porn industry for almost a decade. While major studios have long fought bareback upstarts for encouraging unsafe behavior and profiting from unsafe working conditions, the point may now be moot: Raging Stallion director Chris Ward claims to have produced the first safe-sex bareback film.

According to his blog, Ward has figured out a way to produce a safe sex scene that uses condoms while removing the visual signifiers...

"Over the past year I have undertaken a huge (and secret) research and development project aimed at filming safe sex so that the viewer cannot see the condoms. In short, the condoms are still on the dick but not in the viewer's face. Just as Hollywood studios can remove street signs or unwanted images from their movies, Raging Stallion now has the capability of making condoms barely visible in most cases."

While some people will probably still decry the movies as a bad example for the general population, he doesn't plan on denying the fact that condoms are there. Ward says he'll offer proof on each disc that show the condoms in use.

I've never been a big believer in the danger of "media effects" (remember all the social curses that were to result from Beavis and Butthead's cartoon activity or the supposed Marilyn Manson/Columbine connection?), but that doesn't mean showing it onscreen is in the moral clear. In an era of little or no public education about HIV, is it right to encourage it? One thing is certain (at least to me): what people do their own bedroom may be their own business but what they do in the workplace concerns the State.

There's sure to be a firestorm (as well as a lot of furtive masturbation). Is Chris a heretic? A traitor to the cause? A revolutionary? A Dr. Frankenstein? This may signal a new move for the industry -- or perhaps he's created the porn equivalent of non-fat ice cream (all the pleasure, none of the guilt)? Or is all this smoke and mirrors just another porn gimmick?

Gay Porn "Best of" Lists

Just as almost every major gay porn studio will garner a nod when the GayVN Award nominations for gay porn come out later this month (last year featured roughly thirty categories with ten to twelve nominees in each), so do the inevitable year end lists. ManNet's Butch Harris came out with his today ("The 100 Best Videos of 2006") and nearly every studio came out with a press release detailing their accomplishments. Good for them.

It takes a lot of work to produce as many gay porn movies as the industry does and it's hard to keep a up enthusiasm and quality when you're shooting three movies a month. There were plenty of great movies on Butch's list, but it's hard for porn lovers to sort through. Want something a little more manageable? Try NakedSword's Hit List. Culled from the viewing habits of the gay porn sites massive membership base, the site ranked the top viewed movie for each month last year (including personal favorites like Arabesque (Raging Stallion), Big Rig (Buckshot Productions), Trapped (Mustang Studios) and Fire Island Cruising 7 (Lucas Entertainment). They can't claim to be definitive, but at least you're assured a good time.
