In all the hubbub surrounding Ben Jakks election to the NakedSwordsman post, it seems we've nearly eclipsed NakedSword.com's January Dream Team member, Aiden Shaw.

Shaw is a true legend in an industry littered with lesser men. "Gay Porn Academy Awards" Announced

Well, the closest thing we've got to the gay porn oscars ... the 2005 GayVN Awards. Mike and I were nominated for "Best Screenplay" (for Wet Palms, natch). And, of course, it's an honor just to be nominated but fuck if we don't win ... gawd! The WP did pretty fucking great, garnering 11 nominations, (only to be overshadowed by Buckleroos, which got 17 and Horse: Fallen Angel 5, which got 14, and Bolt which tied us with 11. Like, whatevs...) Michael Lucas' Lost and Lucas Kazan's Backstage both got 9 nominations. Falcon's Taking Flight 1 + 2 got a respectable 7. My favorite Porn star-turned-designer-turned-porn star-turned-porn producer Ray Dragon's Whiplash got 5. Double Delights, an all-double penetration flick, got a surprising 4 nominations.

I have to say I'm especially proud of my pal Cory Koons (not Corey, whatevs) for getting a "Best Newcomer" nom (ya saw him here first, folks) and let's keep our fingers crossed that Gus Mattox's Erica Kane curse is over when he finally takes home this year's highly coveted Performer of the Year trophy. Ben Jakks: NakedSwordsman 2005

NakedSword.com announced today that it has selected Titan Man (and artcore porn-oneer) Ben Jakks as it's NakedSwordsman for the coming year. I just got back from an Ugg-studded Park City and while Wet Palms won't be competing this year, the 2005 Sundance Film Festival has more sucking and fucking on its hallowed film screens this week alone than in the entire history of Utah.

On Friday night, directors Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato premiered their penetrating look at Linda Lovelace et al. with Inside Deep Throat. The doc interviews everyone from Hugh Hefner and Helen Gurley Brown to Gore Vidal and Harry Reems (the wacky doctor who discovers that Linda Lovelace's clitoris is at the base of her throat). Unlike so many porn docs, the Brian Grazer-produced film lets the original Deep Throat speak for itself, with an explicit and funny shot of Linda going down on Reems, taking the cock like a pro. While one audience member did express dismay that this was not a documentary about Watergate, the rest seemed prepared to accept the sex-cess.

This weekend also saw the debut of another NC-17 flick, director Michael Winterbottom's daring 9 Songs. The artcore film features a smokin' Englishman with a thick uncut cock and a sex-positive girlfriend who is willing to take it all for the sake of 'art'. The screening was preceded by "Elke's Visit," a sex-filled short that takes place on a train. Both had full penetration (vaginal, lingual, digital, oral) and audiences were more aroused than shocked. Have directors taken the cue of the famously unsuccessful Brown Bunny (where Chloe Sevigny goes down on Vincent Gallo)? While it's daring to try and break down the barriers between hardcore and mainstream films, it risks being more boring than breakthrough if you don't have a reason (other than shock value). It's too bad that Verhoven and Esterhas won't be working in this town any longer. If anyone should be given the right to poke at the mainstream market, it's those two.

Last week Mike and I hitched a ride to Vegas to graciously accept our Cybersockett Award for Best Blog. We picked a good time to go. This is when the gay and straight porn world descends upon the "unsuspecting" city for a bunch of events; in addition to the Cybersocett Awards (did I mention we won! Thanks for voting for us!), there's also the Internext Expo, AVN Expo, and the AVN Awards (GayVNs aren't until March).

But standing around in a convention hall pressing flesh and collecting business cards is really the last thing on anyone's mind. It's all about the parties, dude. Hustlaball (which, on principle, I pronounce as "Hustler Ball") is the gay circuit party and it was pretty fun. They had an all-sex pre-party at the all-male Blue Moon Resort, which I went to with Mr. PAM and "The girls from Gay.com". It was fun, but the girls got more action than I did. Whatevs. Jonno from Fleshbot took me, his billionaire playboy publisher Nick and Violet Blue of Tiny Nibbles fame to the Pure Play Media Party, at the Hard Rock Cafe, which was way more glam than anything the gay porn folks could muster up and sort of made me realize that I need to start watching more straight porn. And I won $350 in a slot machine. So, good times.
