Steve Reeves
"Let me show you around, maybe play you a sound
You look like you're both pretty groovy
Or if you want something visual
That's not too abysmal
We could take in an old Steeve Reeves movie"
-Rocky Horror Picture Show
"Do you like gladiator movies, Bobby? ... Have you ever seen a grown man naked?"
-Airplane, the Movie
Governor Arnold was born around 1948 and around that time a guy named Steve Reeves was already winning bodybuilding titles. After winning Mr. World and Mr. Universe, Steve Reeves took his trophies (and his gorgeous face) to Hollywood. Until Arnold began to make a name for himself in the mid to late 70's, Steve Reeves was the most famous actor/bodybuilder for many years.
From his web site, SteveReeves.com, here are Steve Reeves' bodybuilding titles:
1946 - Mr. Pacific Coast (This contest would remain the Mr. Pacific Coast, Contest held in Portland Oregon)
1947 - Mr. Pacific Coast (This would become the Western America the following year. Contest held in Los Angeles)

1948 - Mr. USA (2nd place)

1948 - Mr. World (Contest held in Cannes France)
1949 - Mr. USA (3rd place)
1950 - Mr. Universe (Contest held in London England)
According to Steve himself, these are his best measurements during his bodybuilding days. These measurements were taken "COLD" - without being pumped before the days workout.
Height: 6' 1"

Okay, maybe it's wishful thinking or maybe I'm just reading too much into it, but what is going on in that beach photo? (click to enlarge) The girls looked "placed" in the shot (although the gardenia one piece is de-voon!), and the young boys seem to be "hovering" around the beefcake with a little too much interest. And the guy with the pointer, I don't want to know...
The Hercules photo is just what you'd expect to see on a movie set - flaming queens rushing over from the costume department to fuss with the loincloth and rub baby oil on the Herculean muscles between each take. And what queen decided that Hercules should wear platform sandals?
